Founded by Belle Sheiner

Belle Sheiner, honored with the title of TRIF President Emeritus for her role in founding the organization known as TRIF -Teacher Retirees in Florida - and having served as the first President of Retiree Council 43, tells the story in her own words:

"I have taken you on my journey, rather briefly, through the history of TRIF. I've done a lot of reminiscing about places I visited and the many good people I met throughout this adopted state. I helped as much as I could but they (the wonderful retirees that I had been meeting) were on the scene.

"Despite some trepidation, and with much persuasion, they took charge, carried the ball and were were successful in building their chapters."

As noted earlier, Bill Cea picked up where Belle had started and helped to build a strong, viable organization that would then be ready for its third and current leader, Tina Sharp. Her entrance into the leadership role, not necessarily a position she sought as she served her own Unit, provided a smooth and highly successful transition that has paved the way for today's statewide growth of New York State teacher retiree localized Units.
